Branch History

The South East Kent Branch of the Submarine Old Comrades Association was formed on April 2nd 1952 at the Stag Hotel Walmer.

In January 2003, at an Extra ordinary Annual General Meeting it was decided to move the venue of the Branch meetings from Deal and Walmer to Margate Royal British Legion Club.

The branch name was changed to the EAST KENT BRANCH.

SUBMARINERS ASSOCIATION: EAST KENT BRANCH

The Submariners Association is an association of ex and serving submariners which seeks to maintain the special bonds of friendship, loyalty and comradeship, together with a pride in the Submarine Service, formed during service in Her Majesty's Submarines.

The East Kent Branch meets on the 1st Sunday of each month. Click here for more information.

All ex and serving submariners are welcome.

Branch activities in June

During the month of June, the branch was represented at two funerals.
Don Richie from the Bromley branch and Dez Voisey from the Medway branch.

On Saturday 27th June, four members attended the National Armed Forces Day at Chatham Historic Dockyard.

Adoption of WW1 Unknown Sailor War Graves

Following a tour of the War Graves at St. Peter's Churchyard in April 2007, the branch adopted the two World War One Unknown Sailors graves.
The branch will ensure the graves are maintained and the headstones are clean.

Branch Standard

The Branch Standard was dedicated on Sunday 7th October 2007 at the Parish Church of St.Peter-in-Thanet, Broadstairs.
In attendance were Admiral the Lord Boyce GCB OBE DL Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, Constable of Dover Castle and Lady Boyce. Also the Town Mayors of Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs, Kent County and Thanet Councillors.

On parade were fourteen visiting standards which included the National Standards of the Submariners Association and the Royal Naval Association.

To date the Branch Standard has been paraded on 36 occasions.

Boat of the Month

Each month this website will display details of a Chatham built boat.

The two exceptions to this rule will be:

October when HMS Victory will take center stage.

November when HM Submarine Sterlet will be remembered.
