In September 1943 Sea Nymph was one of the towing submarines for the raid on the German Battleship Tirpitz.
Under the command of Lt. J Oakley she towed X8. This was not a successful mission for Sea Nymph.
First the tow parted and although X8 was again taken in tow, a more serious problem was to follow. The towing crew were forced to release both explosive charges. One of these then exploded damaging the craft.
X8 was scuttled and the towing crew taken back on board Sea Nymph.
